Any company, anyone, in a matter of minutes, can have online presence across all the most popular social media platforms.   You can have your own TV station on Youtube, your own printing press on a blog, the Twitter, the Facebook, all of it, right now.

Then what?

Social media decisions will govern how a company is perceived long term, not short term.  The first time social media gets discussed in the board room should not be the day it blows up in their face – social media decisions must be made in the board room, before you jump in.

What are the goals?  Who is the audience?  What will the community look like a month after launch?  A year?  What do you want it to look like?  What’s a reasonable ROI for social media?  Should we even care?  Are we marketing, or selling, or building the brand?  Who’s in charge here?  Who monitors this whole….thing?
